Claustrophoria
In Collaboration with Sophia Foster
Claustrophoria fuses Hannah Neo’s photographic practice with Sophia’s poetic practice to create a photography-based installation. Hannah Neo’s photographs grapple with the physical presence of the body; the cropping done specifically to push the body into a deeper tighter corner of observation. While the installation, paired with Sophia’s poetic quips, provide deeper insight into the processing of desire and the anxieties associated with wanting.
The conceptualised word Claustrophoria references the constraint of existing in a strictly outlined body and the euphoric emotions that emerge within a tight space.
Claustorphoria (noun). an overarching feeling of claustrophobia paired with the euphoric feeling of seeing yourself the way you want/need to be seen.
